Lessons from a CFY Week 15 and 16

lessons from a CFY

Lessons from a CFY Series is going strong at weeks 15 and 16! This wraps up the first four months of my CF! Hard to believe. I hope you all enjoy my lessons from a CFY.

Lesson 15.1: Take a Break. Seriously.

As the holidays came around, I was getting really tired. This is an especially hard adjustment after those very long holiday breaks from undergraduate and graduate school. Not to mention, I work at a college so am taking advantage of that same long break. If you work in a setting that allows for it, take those extra days or weeks off. Take the PTO. That’s what it’s there for. It will really help you live in the moment again, because being a CF doesn’t always let you do that. It’s let me get back on track, think how I want to improve for the next portion of my CF, and how I want to spend my free time.

Lesson 16.1: Maintain Your Boundaries

I have to remind myself of this lesson every single week. I am a person who likes to show up and help out at work. I made sure to do that at both my externships. That allowed me for extra opportunities, but it also took away from time for myself. It’s important to show your value at work, but also maintain personal boundaries of what you need to stay mentally and physically healthy. This can look like setting your email notifications to only come during office hours, or blocking off time in your schedule for your breaks.
