Lessons from a CFY 21
Lessons from a CFY 21.1: Lean on Your Support System
While we are a CFY, we are also human. We are likely to have challenges that arise outside of work. These can be so stressful and affect our ability to focus and even to basic daily tasks. I had an instance like this this week, and I only shared it with close family to prevent my support system from worrying about me. However, when I finally did share with my friends, they all were very supportive and wanted me to tell them so they can support me. I kept telling myself they had enough to worry about and I didn’t want to cause unnecessary stress. My close friend told me if I am worried and stress, I should share that with my support system, so now I know that I will, no matter what. I am so fortunate to have people in my life that are here for me unconditionally. Thank you to all of these people. I am so grateful.
Lessons from a CFY 21.2: Supplementing Your Learning
If you’re anything like me, you might miss the structure and opportunity for constant learning that came with graduate school. Maybe not the tests and last nights and chronic stress, but the learning and application of being a speech-language pathologist. We aren’t eligible for CEUs as CFs, but there are lots of options for low cost or free educational webinars for us! This is especially great if there’s a certain population you’re interested in but aren’t exposed to in your CF position. For example, I aim to work with transgender voice. I just signed up for a Transplaining subscription, which is just 5 dollars a month. If you are looking for free webinars, check out these sites:
