sex

Sex refers to the biological differences between individuals that are male-aligned or female-aligned, such as the genitalia and genetic differences. Sex is not the same as gender. I use these terms “male-aligned” or “female-aligned” because it is more representative of identities. A reader provided a great example, that not everyone who is female aligned has matching parts. Trans women can be female aligned whether or not they’ve had surgery, and folks who have female parts may be male-aligned or non-binary.
