Therefore, they did not see a need for research questions that focused on variation in different cultures. Additionally, members of different culturally or ethnic groups often distrust researchers, reasonably so given studies like the <a href=\"https:\/\/rethinkingschools.org\/articles\/medical-apartheid\/\">Tuskegee Syphilis Study.&nbsp;<\/a><\/p><p>There are not many studies as extreme as that one, but it does emphasize the need for quality culturally sensitive research while conducting multicultural studies.&nbsp;<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-ce7a5f1 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"ce7a5f1\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-2f45949\" data-id=\"2f45949\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-fc828d9 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"fc828d9\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Cultural Sensitivity in Research Questions<\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-4a7bd75 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"4a7bd75\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-7def843\" data-id=\"7def843\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-2369234 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"2369234\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Be cautious and intentional when designing questions of comparison of different racial or ethnic groups. In the past, the comparision of ethnic minorities to whites was titled the &ldquo;comparative research framework&rdquo;. While these studies can show cultural differences, they portray the idea that whites are the control and other races should be compared to them. Additionally, not all variables in a study may be relevant to every ethnic group.<\/p><div id=\"S0002\" class=\"NLM_sec NLM_sec_level_1\"><p>Fortunately, greater cultural awareness has reduced the use of the comparative research framework. (Cokley &amp; Awad, <span class=\"ref-lnk lazy-ref\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www-tandfonline-com.proxygw.wrlc.org\/doi\/full\/10.1080\/10474412.2015.1046600#\" data-rid=\"CIT0018\" data-reflink=\"_i11\">2013<\/a><\/span>).<\/p><\/div><div id=\"S0003\" class=\"NLM_sec NLM_sec_level_1\">&nbsp;<\/div><p>&nbsp;<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-e878781 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"e878781\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-1ea9a9b\" data-id=\"1ea9a9b\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0be07ff elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"0be07ff\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Data Collection, Analysis and Assessment<\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-4254e0a elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"4254e0a\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-e0ee695\" data-id=\"e0ee695\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-05215d4 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"05215d4\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>It is important when designing sampling methods that they are more inclusive. Some studies use a convenience sample, so those who want to participate, do. The groups represented may be more homogenous and exclude many diverse groups that may not have time to dedicate to the research or were not aware of it.&nbsp; To remedy this issue, you can also include subgroups of different identities in your study in which you conduct separate analyses. When we talk about representative samples, this always implies that the findings won&rsquo;t describe every person in the group they study, and this especially holds true with different cultural groups.<\/p><p>In terms of assessment, culture needs to be considered at each stage of assessment. The measures you develop, the way you administer the test, and how you score and interpret results. Factors that should be considered are racial and ethnic identities, degree of acculturation, generation, socioeconomic status, family, <span class=\"glossaryLink\"  title=\"Glossary: gender\"  aria-describedby=\"tt\"  data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;gender&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;The World Health Organization defines this as the result of socially constructed ideas about the behavior, actions, and roles of a particular sex. It is not interchangeable with sex, which is based off genitals. It is decided is based on our internal experience, or &amp;lt;strong&amp;gt;gender identity&amp;lt;\/strong&amp;gt;.A person cannot choose gender identity, but they can choose words to define it.&nbsp; People can identify as male, female, transgender, non-binary. &amp;lt;strong&amp;gt;Genderqueer&nbsp;&amp;lt;\/strong&amp;gt;is term used for those who don&amp;#039;t fit into the identity of masculine or feminine. &amp;lt;strong&amp;gt;Genderfluid &amp;lt;\/strong&amp;gt;represents those who may feel a woman for some period of time, or a man for another period of time. Some do identify as &amp;lt;strong&amp;gt;agender&nbsp;&amp;lt;\/strong&amp;gt;which can vary in meaning for many people but could mean genderless.It&amp;#039;s important to recognize&nbsp;&amp;lt;strong&amp;gt;gender diversity. &amp;lt;\/strong&amp;gt;This is an umbrella term to describe an ever-evolving array of labels people may apply when their identity does not conform to the norms and stereotypes others expect.This article is a great explanation of the above concepts.Check out my resource hub for more information.&lt;\/div&gt;\"  data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'  tabindex='0' role='link'>gender<\/span> identity, disability, religion, neighborhood, language, etc.<\/p><p>Assessment bias can come from stereotyping different aspects of a culture. Be aware and adapt to languages spoken and if a person is not proficient in the language of the study, keep the language more simple and concrete as much as possible, or use translations. Build trust with people of different ethnic identities by being as explicit and understanding as possible with your research study. Answer any questions they have honestly and openly. Consider as many cultural variables as possible.
