We will all have diverse identities on our caseloads, and our assessment tools need to reflect that. Most formal testing is unfamiliar to individuals who have not had exposure to the mainstream educational context and to the culture of testing that includes both nonverbal and verbal components. Nonverbal aspects of the testing culture include:&nbsp;<\/p><ul><li>perception of time;<\/li><li>how one is expected to learn;<\/li><li>how one is expected to respond&mdash;in a testing context&mdash;to the examiner, regardless of <span class=\"glossaryLink\"  title=\"Glossary: gender\"  aria-describedby=\"tt\"  data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;gender&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;The World Health Organization defines this as the result of socially constructed ideas about the behavior, actions, and roles of a particular sex. It is not interchangeable with sex, which is based off genitals. It is decided is based on our internal experience, or &amp;lt;strong&amp;gt;gender identity&amp;lt;\/strong&amp;gt;.A person cannot choose gender identity, but they can choose words to define it.&nbsp; People can identify as male, female, transgender, non-binary. &amp;lt;strong&amp;gt;Genderqueer&nbsp;&amp;lt;\/strong&amp;gt;is term used for those who don&amp;#039;t fit into the identity of masculine or feminine. &amp;lt;strong&amp;gt;Genderfluid &amp;lt;\/strong&amp;gt;represents those who may feel a woman for some period of time, or a man for another period of time. They are a type of dynamic assessment that can assess phonological working memory, speech perception, phonological assembly and short term memory. There are different NWRTs for many different languages. As a result, they are less culturally and linguistically biased. First, teams are allowed to examine student responsiveness to research-based interventions as a part of a process for <br>determining eligibility. Second, teams may use alternative, research-based methods to identify SLD. Alternative, research-based methods, sometimes known as &ldquo;third method&rdquo; approaches, incorporate examination of a student&rsquo;s patterns of strengths and weaknesses in performance, achievement, or both relative to age, state-approved standards or intellectual development, patterns that are relevant to the identification of specific learning disabilities. A PSW focuses on the &ldquo;why&rdquo; if a child is not performing at the level they should be, rather than just the &ldquo;if&rdquo; they are performing at the right level or not. School psychologists will look at the IQ score and cognitive processes that contribute to the IQ.
